Town of Ogunquit, Maine - Beautiful Place by the Sea

Search

Welcome to the Town of Ogunquit website. Ogunquit, incorporated in 1980, is the fourth newest town in the state and is nestled between the towns of York and Wells on the southern Maine coastline. Named by the Micmac Indians for its natural beauty and charm; the town has maintained its New England village spirit and appeal.

The Oqunquit area is one of Maine's oldest vacation destinations. It offers a wealth of arts and entertainment choices, as well as shop-lined streets, trolley rides, oceanside dining and inviting beaches.

The town is bordered on the ocean by a 3 ½ mile stretch of pristine white beach sand, shielded from the Ogunquit River by protected sand dunes. The Marginal Way is an outstanding and thrilling 1 ¼ mile long winding footpath along the rock-bound coastline that joins the village center to the harbor. The picturesque waterfront of Perkins Cove is home to fishing and pleasure boats and has one of the only draw-footbridges in the country spanning its entrance. The famous Ogunquit Playhouse is one of the few remaining summer stock theaters in the country.

Our little "gem" on the rocky coast of Maine is a “Beautiful Place by the Sea”. Thank you for stopping by and we hope to see you on the beach!
